Adriana Verlaan

Adriana Verlaan

Adriana Verlaan, formerly of Hanover, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at North York General Hospital, Toronto on Wednesday, November 28, 2018. She was 96.

Born in The Netherlands to the late Herman van Diest and Elisabeth van Diest-Ebbelaar, Adriana married Thomas Verlaan when they moved to Canada in 1954. In a unique and highly-regarded partnership, they enjoyed their thriving dairy farm practice and the local communities in Normanby Township for over 25 years.

In her retirement, Adriana volunteered with the Catholic Womens’ League at Holy Family Church from 1992 to 2013. Throughout her life, at home in Canada, abroad and in her later years in retirement communities in the Greater Toronto Area; she dedicated herself to her faith through daily prayer and practice.

Dearly beloved and sadly missed mother of Elizabeth Verlaan-Cole (Mark Cole) of East Gwillimbury, Peter (Anne Marie) Verlaan of London and Harry (Shelley) Verlaan of Enderby, British Columbia. Cherished and beloved grandmother of Ardis, Faryn, Levi, Zoe and Andrew. Oma’s gentle-but-strong presence in our lives will be so deeply missed.

Adriana’s regular correspondence will be missed by brother Piet van Diest and sisters in law Bep van Diest-Menting, Sien Hesp-Verlaan, niece Els ter Heide of Holland, and nephew Herman van Klooster of France. Fortunately, at the age of 90, Adriana was able to last visit her loving family in Holland when her many dear nieces and nephews said their good-byes. Predeceased by loving husband Thomas Verlaan, brother Jan van Diest and sisters Bep vanKlooster-van Diest, Nel Pronk-van Diest, Jo van Diest, Bertha Nelis-van Diest, and Mies Snoek-van Diest.

Visitation will be held at Holy Family Church, Hanover on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 10 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 11 am. Father Gary Schlack officiating. Interment in Hanover Cemetery, Hanover. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover.

Memorial donations to World Vision or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be deeply appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
