Douglas "Doug" Bentley

Douglas “Doug” Wilson Bentley, of Hanover, passed away at Hanover and District Hospital, on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. He was 82.

Born on December 9, 1936 to Alma (nee Wilson) and the late Wilmot Bentley. Doug was employed with Canada Packers from 1956 to 1967, White Farm Equipment and Cockshutt from 1967 to 1982, and then Hanover Motors for over 20 years. A devoted member of the Hanover Masonic Lodge #432 as a Very Worshipful Brother, as well as a member of the Hanover Rotary Club, where he held the title of Paul Harris Fellow, and Assistant Governor for District 6330.  In 2010, Doug was honoured as the Hanover Senior of the Year. Doug was a caring man and loved his community and helping others. He was respected in his community for the countless hours he spent volunteering his time and energy helping various clubs reach their goals. He had a calm demeanour, and a smile that would light up the room.

Survived by the love of his life, wife Marilyn (nee McCandless) Bentley. Dear father of Thomas Bentley of Brantford and Judith Bentley (Paul Earle) of Harriston. Dear son of Alma Mathers of Mount Forest, and brother of Robert Bentley and his partner William Sze-To of Toronto, Bonnie (Donald) Bradley of Victoria, B.C., and brother in-law Howard (Gloria) McCandless of Brampton. He will be fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father Wilmot Bentley, brother Donald Bentley, and brother in-law Brian McCandless.

Visitation at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on April 19, 2019, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:30-9:00 pm, with Hanover Masonic Lodge Service at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 11:00 am, at Grace United Church, Hanover. Rev. Micol Cottrell officiating.  Cremation with inurnment at a later date in Hanover Cemetery.

Memorial donations to the Grace United Church, Canadian Cancer Society, or the Hanover and District Hospital would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
