William "Bill" Dearing

William "Bill" George Dearing, of Hanover, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at The Village Long Term Care on August 23, 2015 at the age of 84.

 

Bill was born on January 30,1931 to Joseph and Jane (nee Smyth) Dearing in Toronto. He attended Bowmore Road School, Danforth Tech and the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Bill, a lifetime member of the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario, worked for the Architectural firms of Paul Sears, Shore &Moffat and James A. Murray in Toronto. 

 

In 1971, Bill moved to Hanover with his young family to become an Architectural Drafting teacher at John Diefenbaker Secondary School.  Lovingly known to his students as "Mr. D." or "Sir", Bill retired from his career as a formal teacher at the age of 66.  

 

Bill will be remembered as a generous, fun-loving and kind person who encouraged his children and students to follow their dreams.  As a person of faith, Bill was an active member of the Church of the Incarnation (Toronto) and at St. James Anglican Church (Hanover).  He was a founding member and recognized for his many years of service to Big Brothers of Hanover.  He also volunteered his time for various charitable organizations. 

 

Bill will be much missed by his loving wife Florence "Queenie" (nee Adams) Dearing, of 57 years, formerly of Parry Sound, daughters Julia (Peter Vollett) of Etobicoke and Alison (Derek Lahn) of Fonthill. "Papa" will be missed by his grandchildren, Joshua, Adam, Aiden and Nicole. Dear brother in law to Bob (Lois) Adams, Nancy Adams, Roy (Helen) Adams, Frederick Adams, David (Heather) Adams, George (Mary) Adams, John (Debbie) Adams, Ernie (Nadine) Adams and Kathy (Bernie) Barbeau. Bill will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother in law Gordon Adams and sister in law Lynn Adams, niece Carol and nephew Robert as well as his cousins Bertha Halsall and Helen Halsall of UK.

 

Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.

 

A Funeral Service will be held to celebrate Bill's life on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 1:30 pm, at Trinity Anglican Church, Durham. Rev. JoAnn Todd officiating. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #308, Durham.

 

To honour Bill's wishes, cremation will follow and an inurnment of ashes will take place at a later date.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the LaunchPad YTC, St. Jame's Anglican Church, charity of your choice or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
