Marcia Jeanette (Brunner) Burt of West Grey peacefully entered into her eternal rest at Grey Bruce Hospice (Chapman House) in Owen Sound on Friday, November 14, 2025 at the age of 65. She is now safe in the arms of Jesus and reunited with her dear Nick.
Marcia is deeply loved by her husband Paul of almost 40 years, son Graham (Robyn) Burt, daughter-in-law Stephanie (Cory) Wilkinson, and precious grandchildren Jovie and Carlow. Predeceased by her stillborn son Patrick (1993) and her beloved son Nicolas (2022). Cherished by her “much older” sister Carol (David) Brownell and the extended Brunner/Hilgartner/Burt families. Dearly missed by many close friends.
Marcia was born in Hanover, Ontario on June 27, 1960 to Godfrey and Jeanette (Hilgartner) Brunner. After obtaining music and teaching degrees at Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Western Ontario, Marcia spent 35 years pouring into the lives of many children as a teacher with the Bluewater District School Board, spending most of her career in Durham and Hanover.
With a heart for those in need, Marcia was instrumental in organizing and running the Warming Centre at Hanover Missionary Church for the past seven years. She was also proud of her work with the Bluewater Refugee Education Project and especially enjoyed her weekly English-language lessons with Roman and Danil. Marcia cherished time with family and friends, and enjoyed cross-stitching, rock painting, and spending time down at the river.
Visitation will be held at Hanover Missionary Church (HMC: 628 11th St), Hanover, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, from 2-4 pm and 6:30-8:30 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at 11am at HMC on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, with lunch to follow. For those unable to attend, the service will be live streamed and can be viewed on the HMC YouTube channel (youtube.com/@HMCcommunications/streams).
As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Bluewater Refugee Education Project Inc (brep.ca), the Hanover Missionary Church Warming Centre (hanovermissionary.com/giving with memo: Warming Centre), Chapman House (greybrucehospice.com), or the Saugeen Hospice (saugeenhospice.ca).

Our hearts are so deeply saddened to hear of Marcia's passing. I have known Marcia for many years and I will always treasure the time we spent working together at the warming centre at Hanover Missionary Church. Her kindness, steady grace, and warm spirit touched so many lives " mine included.
May the Lord surround each of you with His peace and comfort during this difficult time.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Janet & Rick Liesemer
Such a huge loss to the Burt family! Our sincere condolences to Paul and Graham. My husband taught Marcia many years ago and I was a colleague of hers at Dawnview. The most precious time came in the 90s when I taught Nicholas Suzuki piano lessons and Mom stayed with him for the lesson. We had many laughs and got to know him on a new level. He was a very precious little boy. Graham spent the half hour driving his miniature cars and trucks around our coffee table. Lovely memories of how patient Marcia was with him as he made musical progress.
So, so sad to hear of her premature passing. May she be reunited with her son.
