Don Brownlee

Don Brownlee

It is with immense sorrow we share the news of the passing of Donald Brownlee, of Hanover, on June 3, 2020.  He was 67.

Loving husband and life partner of Dawn (Gilkinson) for 48 years; adored father of Lisa, Marcie (Stan Whitehead) and Jennifer; proud Poppa of Charissa, Zoey, Amy, Glenn, Gabriel, Joshua, Jathan, and Cedric.  Fondly remembered by his siblings Dale (Jane) of Cochrane, AB and Diane (Craig Byers) of Hanover; and special brother in law to Lynn (Herbert Werkmeister) and Laurie (Rick Symonds).  Predeceased by his parents Doug and Elizabeth Brownlee.

Don was proud to work at Hanover Kitchens for almost forty years until its closure. He then worked at Walmart (where he was well respected by customers and colleagues alike) until his retirement.

Throughout his life, Don had an easy and calm nature.  He was a gentle soul with a huge heart and was generous with smiles and laughter.  To his close friends and family, Don was also known as: Newt, Pix, Curly, Smokey, and Donnie.  If you were a friend of Don, it was for life and his impact will not be forgotten.

Don’s love of the game of hockey started with him as a player and led to refereeing and coaching.  He remained a fan of the game.  As a grandfather, Poppa was a cheerleader at countless activities including soccer, baseball, hockey, martial arts, swimming, and skating.  He loved to watch and encourage in any weather, drive any distance, and regardless of the score he was bursting with pride.  Don loved nothing more than family gatherings, card games, and walking and biking the streets of his home town.  He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus.

At your next BBQ, please raise a glass in memory of a great man we loved.

Don’s family wishes to express extreme gratitude to Care Partners and all other health care professionals for their compassionate care and kindness through his brave battle with pancreatic cancer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to JumpStart or the charity of your choice are appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
