Frederick Howard Helwig, of Neustadt, passed away at SBGHC – Durham Hospital, on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. He was 72.

Born in Walkerton, Ontario, on July 19,1949, to the late Howard and Ruth (nee Krigner) Helwig. Fred enjoyed country living, and working and raising his family on the farm. When Fred wasn't busy with his farms, he was a very generous man with his time, and very involved with volunteer work in his community - and some of the locals chuckled at his self proclaimed title as the "Unofficial Mayor of Neustadt". Among his many activities, Fred especially loved working with the local Lion's Club and the Neustadt Baptist Church. He even tried his hand as an author, and published a book. Fred always seemed to have a big warm smile, loved a good joke, and enjoyed socializing and making those around him laugh to brighten their day - he will be dearly missed by many.

Survived by devoted wife Lynda (nee Evans) Helwig of Neustadt. Loving father of Rina (Kevin Teeter) Helwig of London, and Erin Helwig of Elmira. Special Grandpa of Emmersen, Harrison, and Andersen. Fondly remembered by siblings Susan (Gerry) of Toronto, Murray (Debra) of Walkerton, Paul of Neustadt, Sarah of Quebec City, and Stephen of Calgary, and nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents.

Cremation has taken place, and a private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. 

Memorial donations to the Neustadt Baptist Church would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
