Dave McCallum

MCCALLUM

David "Dave" McCallum, of Hanover, passed away after a short ten days at Hanover and District Hospital on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 surrounded by all he loved. He was 78.

Born in Toronto on November 16, 1943 to the late Donald and Connie (nee Ross) McCallum. He was the eldest child and welcomed his siblings every two years. He enjoyed the farming life and all the strong work values and ethics that it brought him. He soon met his beautiful bride Barbara McGill and married in the centennial year, 1967. Some locals in the area will remember Dave from working at Roberts Farm Equipment, after which he retired to pursue other passions and enjoy life. Dave was a gentle soul filled with Scottish pride and helped everyone he knew. He had a passion for his pumpkins and is locally known as the "Pumpkin King". Dave entered many contests throughout Grey Bruce counties and he has been rewarded with his name etched in various plaques for all different categories and ribbons of all placements. He was a proud Mason with the Hanover Masonic Lodge and had built many lasting friendships over the years. Dave was also very dedicated to the Shriners Club, devoted member of St. James Anglican Church, Hanover and hard working member of Hanover Curling Club. He will definitely be missed as he enjoyed the community spirit of helping others.

Survived by devoted wife, Barbara (nee McGill) McCallum of Hanover. Father of Paul (Shelley) McCallum of Owen Sound, Robin (Tatyana) McCallum of Orangeville and Karen McCallum-Shipp of Hanover. He will be remembered by his grandchildren Lauren (David), twins Cameron and Courtney, Iona, Mabel, Katelyn (Joey), Kelton and Kaleb as well as his very special great granddaughter Amelia that wrapped Grandpa around her finger. Fondly remembered by his siblings John McCallum (Maxine Kerr) of King Township, Don (Cathy) McCallum of North Bay, Mary Anne (Pud) Hunter of Aylmer, Jean (Jim) Lyons of Uxbridge and Kevin McCallum (Lisa) of California. Remembered by his dear brother in law Glenn (Debbie) McGill of Wiarton as well as many nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by his parents and brother Keith.

To honour his wishes, a Graveside Celebration of Life Service will be held at Hanover Cemetery on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 11 am.
