Leo Montag

Leo Montag

Leo Irven Montag, of RR#1 Elmwood, passed away peacefully at his home
with family by his side, on Friday, June 24, 2022. He was 82.

Born on December 17, 1939 in Carlsruhe, to the late Leo and Rita
(Stroeder) Montag. Leo enjoyed many years on the family farm near Ayton,
and all the rewarding, yet hard work that came with country living. As much
as he enjoyed hard work and his other fun hobbies, Leo was always most
invested in his family. Leo retired in 1999 and moved to his house near
Elmwood where he enjoyed gardening and socializing. Leo was very
involved with the Catholic Church and he was a 4th degree member of the Knights
of Columbus. His favourite pastimes were dancing and playing games,
especially cards. He was a very kind and fun-loving man, and will be
missed by many people.

Survived by devoted wife of 60 years, Loretta (Grubb). Loved and adored
father of Leo (Lorraine) Montag of Ayton, Loretta Montag of Melbourne, Ontario,
Nancy (Wilfried) Boerkamp of Chesley, Michele (Dave) Bowering of
Ilderton, Tammy Weller (Mark Pegelo) of Hanover, and Randy Montag
(Pamela Gold) of Hanover. Proud grandfather of 28, and great grandfather
of 14. Fondly remembered by siblings John Montag of Kitchener, Alphonse
Montag of Woodstock, Rita (Roger) Boudreau of Kitchener, Alice (Ron)
Paleczny of Kitchener, Clare (Roseanne) Montag of Walkerton, Clara
(Sam) Geddes of Kincardine, Jerome (Marlene) Montag of Carlsruhe, and
Clarence (Marlene) Montag and Bernadette (Larry) Schlorff both of
Walkerton, as well as many brothers and sisters in-law and their families.
Predeceased by his parents, daughter Cynthia Montag, sister Mary Ann
(Philip) Grubb, brother Gerald (Mary-Lou) Montag, and sisters-in-law Judy
and Theresa Montag, granddaughters Laura Lee Montag, Jacquelyn
Doupe and great granddaughter Julie Montag.

Visitation will be held at Holy Family Parish, Hanover, on Tuesday, June 28,
2022 from 10-10:45 am, where a Celebration of Life and Mass will follow at 11am. Father
Emmanuel Azike officiating. Interment in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery,
Carlsruhe. Lunch following the interment at Holy Family Parish.

Memorial donations to the Holy Family Church, Hanover or Hanover and
District Hospital would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
