Alexander "Alex" Cameron

Alexander "Alex" Watson Cameron, of Hanover, passed away peacefully at Hanover and District Hospital on Saturday, May 20, 2023.    He was 87.

Born on September 22, 1935 in Bowmanville, Ontario to the late Alexander and Helen (nee Purdy) Cameron. Alex met Carolyn in Sarnia, Ontario where she was a Registered Nurse. Alex was employed with the Ontario Provincial Police. Together leading an active life, they moved to Timmins when Alex was transferred in the OPP. He left the OPP and was employed with the Anglican Church - Diocese of Moosonee. This led to other positions, but finally settled with the Motor Fuel and Tobacco Tax with the Province of Ontario from which he retired. Together, spending 14 winters in Florida, and summers in Restoule, they moved to Tara when health concerns restricted both from travelling.

Over the years Alex was active in the Shrine, Royal Canadian Legion, Anglican Church, St Andrews Society,  OPP Veterans Association, and Timmins Legion Pipe Band.

Survived by sons Alexander "Alex" (Linda) Cameron of Port Elgin and Dr. John Scott (Cathie) Cameron of New Hamburg. Loved by his grandchildren  Ashley, Lisa, Jillian, Alexander, Michael and great grandsons Rhys, Rory, Locke and Hays. He will be fondly remembered by several cousins and their families, especially Lesley Stubbs in England. Predeceased by his beloved wife Carolyn (nee Kolmer) Cameron.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Visitation held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 1-1:45pm where a Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 pm.    Cremation has taken place with a private inurnment of ashes in Hanover Cemetery.

Special thanks to Dr. Schipper and the nursing staff at Chesley Medical Clinic who supported Alex for over 20 years and especially during his final weeks, the staff of the Village retirement home who took care of him on a daily basis, and the nurses & doctors at Hanover & District Hospital who supported him and his family though Alex's final hours in comfort with dignity and kindness.

Alex, John and family-
I am sending my deepest condolences to you all at this most difficult time!
I had the honour of getting to know Alex though my job as an RN. I feel I know all of you from the countless stories your dad told me whenever I came to see him.
The love he had for all of you, and for your mom could he seen and heard in all of his stories, the way he spoke of you all and the light in his eyes while he shared his memories.
He was a special man that will he missed by many!
You are all in my thoughts-
