Geertje (Gertie) Neeltje Schinkel, of Hanover, passed away at Bluewater Rest Home in Zurich on Thursday, December 21, 2023 in her 93rd year. The Lord called our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother in to his eternal love and joy.
Born in Utrecht, Holland on April 15, 1930. Daughter of the late Huibert (Martha) Roodenburg.
Gertie was the wife of the late Ernst (Eric) Schinkel (deceased March 2012). They were married on April 9th, 1952 and arrived in Canada shortly thereafter. It was in Ontario that they began their new life.
Gertie leaves behind her children; John (Vicky) Schinkel, Herb Schinkel, Richard (Katherine) Schinkel, Marlene (Bruce) Graham, Don Schinkel ( Hillary Terdik). She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Gertie is predeceased by her brothers Jan Roodenburg, Huibert Roodenburg and Marigje Haanstra and her daughter in law Corrina Debusschere.
Family and friends are invited to visitation held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 12 noon until time of a Funeral Service at 1pm. Pastor Lyndsay McGregor officiating. Private family interment in Union Cemetery, Ayton.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Hanover Food Bank or to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.

I have many fond memories as kids where we would play baseball at your Ayton home and played "floor hockey" before watching hockey at our place. Always a special time when tanta Gertie would make her homemade bread.

So sorry to hear of Gertie's passing. We enjoyed her company whenever we where in her presence, which was always at the train meetings or at the Homuth's residence. We all had so many good times.

We were so sad to hear of the passing of Gertie. She was such a beautiful woman who touched the hearts of everyone she met. Gertie was a huge part of our lives , we shared so many celebrations together and visiting each other often. She will be missed greatly ,but she is Home with Jesus and we pray that brings some comfort to you. Prayers for Peace for the family..
