Corey Leno

Corey Leno

After a courageous seven month battle with brain cancer, Corey Leno passed away in the evening of January 6th 2024 at Chapman House in Owen Sound. He was surrounded by his son Nicholas, his daughter-in-law Nicole, his daughter Madison, and his wife of 31 years Tami.

Corey was born in Hanover Ontario on January 31st 1973. He lived in Hanover his entire life and cared deeply about his community. He volunteered as a leader for 5th Hanover Scouting, where he taught hundreds of young people the importance of conservation and wildlife. Corey also volunteered his time with the Hanover Community Players, acting in their productions of Burger Town (2011) and played the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz (2018). Corey worked for Regal Rexnord in Hanover for over 25 years and deeply valued his relationships with his co-workers.

Corey was known for his uplifting spirit, relentlessly positive attitude, and his favorite phrase “be better today than you were yesterday.”

In lieu of flowers the family is asking those who wish to express their condolences to consider making a donation to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada (https://www.braintumour.ca/) , the Hanover Community Players (https://www.hanovercommunityplayers.ca/) , or a charity of their choice. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover.

The family will be holding a celebration of life in the spring.

My heartfelt condolences to all of Corey's family. Corey was a wonderful person. I first met Corey when he came to my house to introduce himself as my newspaper delivery boy. He must have been about 11 or 12, but his professionalism, even at that young age, shone through. He will be missed and remembered by all who knew him.

Tami, Nicholas, Madison - so very sorry to hear of Corey's passing. We have many memories of Corey as a Scout leader - during weekly meetings, camping trips and excursions. Particularly remember some fun times at Camp McGovern. He certainly had a lasting impact in the lives of many local youth.
Forever missed, forever remembered.

Tami, Nicholas and Nicole, Madison. We are so very sorry for your loss. I've had the pleasure of working alongside Corey for 29 years. We lived across from each other and our kids played together for years. Corey always had a smile and would have done anything for anyone. He was very proud of his family and talked about all of you all the time. Corey was passionate and did a lot for the community and of course always went above and beyond at work. I learned a lot from Corey over the years and few could match his knowledge and passion for the motor business. I enjoyed watching him in Burger Town and The Wizard of Oz as the scarecrow. What an awesome role for Corey and he played it extremely well. We will miss his pop quizzes and bright smile around the office. It's just not the same without him there. Please know he is truly missed by all who knew him. I hope peace finds its way to your hearts at this most difficult time.

Tami, I briefly met you at Hospice in my role as a volunteer. I just wanted to send my condolences to you and your family. Losing a loved one is never easy and I hope you will cherish wonderful memories and don't be afraid to lean on friends and family for support. I had hoped to be able to speak to you as my son passed away last January with a glioblastoma so I have an idea of the journey you have been on. Sending love, hugs and prayers. Barb

I am so sorry to hear about Corey's passing. I had the pleasure of working with him in a JDSS production of Oklahoma where he played the part of Will. I didn't know him previously, but when Nancy Lilliman and I did our promotional meeting with interested students, I clearly remember seeing his enthusiastic face; he stood out in the crowd of kids in the Amphitheatre that day. Despite never having taken Drama or Music at the high school level, he blew us away in auditions. In the actual production, he defined the role of Will for me. Everyone else pales by comparison. He was so talented, and the nicest guy you could ever meet. He will be greatly missed by everyone, family and friends alike.
