Arthur Harold Grahlman, of Owen Sound, formerly of Bentinck Township, passed away at Chapman House – Grey Bruce Hospice, Owen Sound, on Saturday, April 19, 2025. He was 101. (1924-2025)
Survived by daughters Carol Owens of Kincardine, Kathleen and her husband Jack Moffat of Formosa, and son David Grahlman and his wife Faye Fisher of Priceville, as well as step daughter Nora Wade, stepson Brad Christie, and their families. Loved Grandfather of Michelle, Jocelyn, Sean, Melanie, Charles, and Jennifer, step grandsons Christopher and Adam and 9 great grandchildren. Fondly remembered by 3 brothers, Bev, Clarence, and Laurie, and their families. Predeceased by his wife Elva Schreinert, and 2nd wife Phyllis Christie, his three sisters, son-in-law Peter Owens, step son-in-law Randy Wade.
Harold finished school at age 12 and in later life, when asked for advice he recommended getting an education. He helped on his father's farm and worked at the Chesley flour and grist mill until 1955 when he purchased his own farm near Teviotdale. Often sought for his wise counsel, he demonstrated how hard work, and good decisions provided opportunity. At age 65, he retired from his farm in Bentinck. Then he started world travels with Elva, and continued with Phyllis. Many will remember Harold, and his love for playing cards, as a formidable opponent. Others may remember his many years acting as a Director for the Co-Op, and Gay-Lea Foods. He served as a church councillor, volunteered locally and was recognized with a Senior Citizenship Award.
Friends and family are invited to a Committal Service at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, Bentinck, at 11 am on Saturday May 3, 2025, followed by a reception at Lamlash Hall at 12 noon.
Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover.
