Yvonne Yvette Guay (nee Gauthier) passed away on May 9th, 2025 at Hanover District Hospital surrounded by family in her 83rd year. She was welcomed home by her late husband, Jean-Claude Guay.
Yvonne was born on September 11th, 1942, in St. Elizabeth, Manitoba, and was the daughter of the late Albeni and Cecile Gauthier. She married the love of her life on June 24th, 1961 and were together for 58 years before Jean-Claude passed away on May 7th, 2019. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was very proud of her family and all of their accomplishments. Yvonne was very artistic and creative through her work with ceramics, painting and quilting. She enjoyed spending time outside, especially camping. Yvonne was devoted to helping others and serving God as a Personal Support Worker, volunteer at Holy Family Catholic Church in Hanover, Catholic Women's League, Day Away and as a cook.
She is loved and remembered by her children Marc (Louise) Guay of Cambridge, Rene (Norma) Guay of Pickering, Nicole (Brent) McDougall of Tillsonburg, and Levis (Melanie) Guay of Barrie. Yvonne was a special Memere to her grandchildren Stephanie (Alex) Ladd, Keara (Gonzo) Guay, Isaac (Emma) Guay, Alex Evergreen, Jordan Guay, Grace (Frank) Zacharias, Nathaniel Guay, Jess McDougall and her great-granddaughter Liliana Ladd. She will be fondly remembered by her brother Marcel (Sharon) Gauthier, her brother Rene Gauthier, her sister Annette Vermette, sister Florence (George) Tardiff, sister Dianne (Terry) Palmer, sister Elizabeth (James), brother Gord, brother David, and her many dear friends, family and extended family. She was predeceased by sister Jeanne (Roland) Ross, brother-in-law Roger Vermette, and sister-in-law Gisele Gauthier.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the PSW homecare team, Sprucewood Retirement Home and Yvonne's Healthcare team at Hanover District Hospital. Dr. Kuipers, the nurses and PSWs went above and beyond to ensure she received the best care possible. Additionally, the family would like to thank Shirley for everything she has done for Yvonne and the family over the past few years.
Visitation will be at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 5:30pm - 8:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 11 am, at Holy Family Church, Hanover. Father Romalito Guillen officiating. Interment to follow at Holy Family Cemetery, Hanover.
Memorial donations to the Hanover & District Hospital Foundation or Holy Family Church expansion would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
It is with a smile that I remember Yvonne. She was always very kind to me and willing to teach me things when I first moved to Winnipeg. Her support and love have stayed with me all my life. May you all have fond memories that you can share with each other at the passing of this lovely lady.
