George Bruce Rahn, of Hanover, passed away at Hanover and District Hospital, on Saturday, June 7th, 2025 at the age of 80.
He was born in Hanover, Ontario, on May 17th, 1945 to the late Hilliard and Mae (nee Boyes) Rahn. George was proud to be born and raised in Hanover and to live his lifetime in this town and raise a family. He truly loved Hanover and this was reflected in his career and his volunteerism. As a citizen he always strived to contribute to making Hanover "the place to be". George met the love of his life, Sharon Wilken, in Hanover in 1969. They were married the following year. Soon after, they welcomed their 2 sons into their family. Together they enjoyed many years of wonderful memories being parents, and eventually proud grandparents. George and Sharon recently celebrated 55 years of marriage. Many people will remember George's affectionate smile, fun-loving nature, quick wit, and warm laugh. He was always up for a chat or a good joke and could be seen giving a friendly wave while he walked the streets of town on his daily mail routes during his many years working for Canada Post. When he wasn't busy with his job and raising his family, he would fill his time with his various hobbies, flying RC planes and working with model trains, and volunteer roles. His many hours of volunteering eventually earned him nominations for both the Hanover Citizen of the Year award and the Lifetime Achievement Award for Community Service, which he was awarded in 2005 and 2015, respectively. Locally George was often the voice on Hanover’s Bluewater Radio as Postie’s Golden Oldies. As proud as George was of his many accomplishments, he was always most proud of his wife and his family. In his own words, George saw God's light in each family member but it shone no brighter than when they were all together.
Survived by his best friend and beautiful wife, Sharon (nee Wilken) of Hanover. Proud father of Jason (Stacy) and Jared (Ann), both of Hanover, and special 'Opa' of Jacob (Jenna), Eva Marie (Sam), Jaydan, and Ainsley. Fondly remembered by his brother Jim of Marl Lake. George was forever thankful to the entire Wilken Family for accepting him into their family and for the cherished memories over the years. Predeceased by his parents.
Just as George wished, a Casual Come & Go Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 22nd, 2025, from 2-5 pm, at Ground Effects Special Event Centre, Hanover (#341411 Concession 2 NDR) – all are welcome to attend and share in a good time. Inurnment will be held in the Hanover Cemetery Columbarium.
Memorial donations to the Hanover and District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

Sharon, Jason, Jared, you have my heartfelt condolences at tis time. George blessed you and everyone who knew him with his winning personality and generous heart. May you be further blessed with the knowledge that is now with Heavenly Father, free from pain and suffering, which heroically endured these past few years. George was a life-long great friend and confidant. Though separated by many hundreds of kilometers, we kept close by many phone calls over the years.
I look forward to renewing that friendship in Heavenly Father's kingdom.

Dear Sharon and family. We are saddened by the news that Postie has died. He and I have fought diabetes for many many years. Postie and I have been friends since the 1950's. I lived in the apartments by the Legion and Postie lived on 9th Street. We were not allowed to cross 10th Street so we went under. There used to be a creek flowing thru a very large culvert so when we went tp play we put on our rubber boots to walk in the creek and safely went to each others homes. Oh the simple times in our lives when our friendship started.
I will think of Postie often and remember our friendship

To the Rahn, Wilken and Aylwin families. I am so so sad to hear of George leaving us. I worked with George for years at Canada Post. We were both letter carriers.. He was fun to work with and had such a kick ass sense of humour. He could make great conversion, laughed and sang a lot and this was all the while we were sorting our mail every morning before going our separate ways to deliver. I could write a book about his "quotes" usually driven by working for Canada Post. He adored his wife and boys and their families. He considered first the Wilken family and the then later the Aylwin family as gifts he did not really think he deserved. He loved each and everyone unconditionally. Who would not want Karly Kool or Norm for father-in-laws?? And Vi of course as a mom! Hey!! I wanted them! I was always most impressed with his commitment to the town he was born, raised and lived in his entire life. He did a lot of great things and never ever sought the limelight. RIP my mailman friend!

I loved listening to Postie's Golden Oldies, so one Friday night I stopped in at the studio to meet him. He was so friendly and down-to-earth, a real family man. I'm grateful he shared the beloved 'oldies' over the airwaves. Your loss must be immense; wishing you all peace and comfort. Rest in Peace 'Postie'.
