Donald Wayne Sampson

With great sadness upon us, we lovingly announce the departure of our sweet loving father, Donald Wayne Sampson, who passed on Wednesday, July 2nd 2025, at the Brampton civic Hospital at 2:21 PM.ET, at the age of 65.

Donald Wayne “Beeker” was born, January 05, 1960 in Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. He was raised proudly in a small town, along the New Waterford Highway, on the shoreline of the Sydney harbor called South Bar.

A Loving son to: Eugene Francis Sampson (Doris) of Louisdale, Cape Breton, N.S and Mary Francis “Fran” (David) Joseph of Newfoundland. (Predeceased)

He was a best friend and husband to Deborah Jean Sampson for 41 years, enduring through some of life’s toughest encounters together, still making every occasion and holiday a fond memory for us all.

A proud father to 4 children:

Jodie Lee Sampson (Donald R. Wilson), Ashley Martha Sampson (Predeceased), Jordan Joseph Sampson and Matthew Patrick Sampson (Predeceased)

An adoring Pappa to 2 grand children who love and miss him greatly.:

Wallace “Wally” Samson Wilson & Saoirse Eugenie Wilson.

An admiring youngest sibling of:

Sylvia (Wally) Jackson, Marilyn Burke (Predeceased by brother in law Sonny Burke), Frankie Sampson (Mary Carson, Jerry (Valerie) Sampson, Donna (Tom) Drover and Gary Sampson (Predeceased)

A caring uncle to:

Michael “Todd” (Sarah) Burke, Jeff (Stephanie) Jackson, Stacy (Glen) Abriel, Aaron (Vivian) Jackson, Danny Burke, Jennifer (Bruce) Milmine (Predeceased by niece), Frankie (Samantha McClellan) Sampson, Amy (Matt) Macpherson, Pamela (D.G) Francis, Thomas (Nadine) Drover, Ellen Sampson, Kirk (Colleen) Sampson Macphee, Donald E. (Jenna) Sampson and Karla (Justin Macvicar) Sampson.

Donald Wayne was also a great uncle who spent hours camping and enjoying river adventures with the kids. He was fortunate in knowing that he was also a great-great uncle to more, and still counting.

Our Dad:

Dad was an honest hard working man, who spent 28 plus years in the steel industry, just like his father before him. He was a kind and sentimental soul. He was innovative, artistic, and self-educated through his interests of mathematics, history, music, and Gaelic culture.

He was athletic and strong in stature for the majority of his life. He was a generous helper, family man, tradition doer/maker, insanely fast runner, hockey player, Montreal fan, story & joke teller, chef, and an amazing host. A nature lover, a Halloween special effects master, & could often be found cheerful in song, everywhere he roamed. He was a proud Cape Bretoner and everyone’s best friend.

Thank you Dad, for your dedication, the gift of capturing decades of family home film, your patience, and most of all, for your big heart. We will be sure to remember your sayings…

Pass and a pinch”

“What’s in-Be-twixed”

“Beau-ti-ful tell yer mudder”

“If you don’t eat your meat, you cannot have any pudding”

“That the tree’s are between the 2’s and the 4’s”

“Smile & say S.H. It!”

We know, Dad, that real love never dies.  So we will love you forever. We will see you in good time,

Love: Jodie, Jordan & Mom.

*A celebration of life will be held in Cape Breton the weekend of August 9th& 10th 2025 and details will be announced on the South Bar Facebook page for friends and family.
