Dr. Richard Link

Dr. Richard Link

It is with a heavy heart we announce the sudden passing of Dr. Richard Link, PHD, in his home on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. He was 74.

Born in Linz, Austria on January 25, 1951, Richard was predeceased by his parents Frank and Anna Link (nee Drescher). Richard was survived by his sister Linda Link-Fenato and her children Jordanna, Dominic and his wife Jennifer and child Freya, Augustus and his wife Jodi and children Kasen and Kyla, and Isaac and his Partner Mariza and child Vasco.

Richard was survived by his first wife and mother of his children, Kathleen Link. Richard was a proud dad to his two sons, Andrew Link and Thomas Link and his wife Dixie. He was an even prouder Opa to his grandson Magnus Link.

Richard was survived in death by his estranged wife Alice Nelson, and a proud step dad to her two sons, Quinton Hoffman and his wife Melissa of Virginia and Damian Hoffman and his wife Melisa of Texas. Richard will be missed by their children Vivian, Cara, Kayla and Casey.

Richard will be missed by many extended family members. He was loved dearly by his friends that were just like family, especially his friend Sherry Strong and his Fishing Buddy who he’s known since University, Ian Mills.

Richard was a proud dog dad to his K9 Sidekicks Seymour and Angel, and will be happy to be reunited with his old dog Buffy.

Richard was a brilliant mind, and studied Astro Physics. Richard was proud of his thesis work in electron transport simulations. Richard applied his transport and energy loss technique to Mars, where he predicted features in the electron spectrum that were unique to Mars. These were later confirmed by measurements made from the Mars Express spacecraft in 2004. Even with these studies Richard was most proud of his family and friends.

To honour Richards wishes a cremation has taken place.

Memorial donations to the Humane Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mightonfuneralhome.ca

Ric and I were best of buddies at U of T and then maintained contact for several years after, We didn't see or hear from each other til he returned to Hanover , and our friendship was quickly renewed . I'll always remember his smile and laugh , which he kept even thru tough times. I know his soul is in tender loving Hands. Condolences to all his family.
