I first met Alf in 1989 up in Sundridge Ont. Where he was cutting a bush and I was hauling out the same roadway. I remember the huge loads he always hauled on that red Kenworth and enjoyed our talks we would have along the road. Later when Alf sort of slowed down with the long distance trucking he started buying loads of firewood from our operations here in the Huntsville area. I can still hear my drivers tell me messages from him he would send back to tell that Fisher to leave them peckerpoles in the bush as he always wanted larger logs to run through his processor. He would call me at night and we would talk for hrs about firewood, logging and trucking. He had many stories that he loved to share. He also loved going to Rama and would invite my wife and I down to meet him there and take us for dinner then a show. We were amazed at his luck as we watched him drop bills into those machines and before long the bells and sirens would be sounding and Alf would be standing there with a smirk like a kid who just got his first bike. He would always get us a room for the night and Shelley and I would laugh the next morning wondering what the cleaning staff thought as the room would be booked for Alf and I yet only 1 bed would have been roughed up and slept in. He was a good man and a good friend and Shelley and I will miss him. Rest in Peace Alf and thank you for being our friend.

Very privileged to have had a long history with Alf as our main log hauler for KFP and as a friend. With big shoes he filled the task of keeping all our woodlot landings cleaned up and delvered like clockwork. He was a skilled operator quick and efficient. Best on the bis. In the guise of a rough around the edges, gruff character he was a fair honest dedicated loyal man. When it came down to he always had my back. We will miss you Alf thanks for all the great years. Sending love and hugs to all of the family during this difficult time.

I (Donnette) always appreciated when Alfie's boys were jumping their dirt bikes up and down the ditch and I came along riding my blonde mare. He would yell at them to stop. Lucky for me, otherwise I would've ended up in the ditch with them.

Greg shares a story that one time Alfie had a logging truck in the ditch and Irv came to pull him out. Alfie thought things should go quicker and after sharing a few beverages he said Irv Wand Auto Sales and Towing should be renamed Tortoise Towing.

Hoping memories will help with the hurt. Sorry we won't be able to attend the funeral.

Well I am sorry to hear this news. I liked Alf a lot and I always thought he liked me too. He once said I can get any kind of lumber you want and I said i want 1000 board feet of Black Walnut and sure thing about a year later at 10:00 at night he phoned and Honked his truck horn and there he was in my driveway. "Where the hell do you want this lumber?" I will miss seeing you at the casino Alf RIP .
