Mary Dianne Anderson was born on September 4, 1957, to parents William and Jean (Williams) Anderson who farmed on the 2nd concession of Glenelg township. She grew up as the oldest of 3 children, and quickly learned the responsibility of helping with family members and chores on mixed farm including egg gathering and tending beef cattle. Dianne attended rural schools in Glenelg during her first years of school, and she finished her primary education at Durham public school.
Growing up in rural Ontario also provided another type of education in the 4-H program. She led many 4-H beef calf projects at local, regional and provincial fairs including the Royal Winter Fair. She also took part in 4-H home making clubs, some of which were led by her own mother.
She attended Grey Highlands Secondary School in Flesherton for her senior years and during this time she showed great proficiency in business subjects. While in high school Dianne developed a passion for curling. She competed as curler for many years, and remained a huge fan of the sport watching when ever it was on television.
Following high school, she entered the work force as a receptionist at a physiotherapy clinic in Durham for several years. She decided to further her education at Georgian Collage in Owen Sound studying business and accounting.
During her time working as receptionist in Durham, Dianne met the love of her life- Jim Magwood a patient at the clinic.
Dianne and Jim were married July 11th, 1981, at Zion United Church in Glenelg township. They made their home at one of the Magwood farms in Bentinck township. She became a 4-H leader for home making clubs, and many Saturday mornings the house had excited young girls from the area learning skills and having fun.
Soon Dianne and Jim brought a baby girl Jennifer into the family in 1987. Matthew followed in 1990, and with Nathan in 1993, their family became complete.
As a spring adventure in 1999, Dianne suggested that we tap a few maple trees so the kids could gather maple sap, and participate in making their own maple syrup. That next spring Magwood Maple Treats was born. Production grew over the years, and with it so did Dianne’s ability to market syrup and other maple-based products. She enjoyed going to craft shows and markets to meet and educate people about 100% pure Ontario maple syrup.
Dianne’s role with Magwood Family Farms kept growing over the years, as more regulation and protocols were put in place. She fed thousands of newborn calves, as well managing all the financial and accounting duties for the family diary operation.
Dianne will be remembered by all as a hardworking, caring and selfless soul who touched so many people with her kind words and thoughtfulness.
In 2024 Dianne began to have a health problem, and she passed away surrounded by her loving family on November 3rd, 2025, at Hanover District Hospital in her 68th year.

It was through my late wife Susan that I first met her and then, Jim. The two of them became good friends while attending Georgian College in Owen Sound. It was great getting to visit each others' family over the years and watching our children grow up together.
May God hold all of you close to his heart during this difficult time.

Jim and family,
Sending our sincere condolences and thoughts on the recent passing of Dianne. We first met you & Dianne at several maple meetings and later worked on the committee that hosted the summer tour in Kincardine several years back. Dianne certainly had a deep passion for maple syrup making and the educational component along with it. May her fond memories be cherished and remembered in the coming days.
