It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Malcolm Errol Cuthwin James Sr., who passed away peacefully at The Village Retirement Home in Hanover, ON on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the age of 88.
Malcolm was born on March 30, 1937, on the beautiful island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines; he was the youngest child and only son of Hubert Clifford James and Josephine Leanora Dublin-James (pre-deceased). He was also pre-deceased by his first daughter, Leslie James, and three of his sisters (Effie, Beatrice and Iris).
At the age of 19, Malcolm immigrated to England, where he trained and became a certified electrician. During this time, he met and married, Magnola John and together they built a family. In 1965, Malcolm immigrated with his family to Canada, settling in Toronto, where he began a long and dedicated career with Bruce Nuclear. He remained with the organization until his retirement in the late 1990’s. In 1977, the family moved to Hanover, a place Malcolm quickly knew would be his forever home, where he lived for the remainder of his life. Malcolm was deeply committed to his community and gave generously of his time. He was a proud member of both the Freemasons & the Rotary Club, as well as District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of Canada, where he built lasting friendships and made meaningful contributions.
Malcolm will be lovingly remembered by his children, Charmaine Robotham (Garfield), Malcolm James Jr. (Jodi), and Andrew James (Debbie), his sister Gwendoline James, his seven grandchildren—Shanice, Joshua, Hayden, Kiera, Sereena, Hannah, and Reese, and his six great-grandchildren. Also remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Malcolm will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quiet leadership, devotion to family, and unwavering love of Hanover and the P&H Centre. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Hanover Legion (493-8th Avenue, Hanover) from 1 to 4 pm on Saturday, January 17th, 2026, with a short remembrance service commencing at 1:30pm.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at The Village Retirement Home for their love and compassion.
Memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Tire Jump Start Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
Malcolm, my bestest friend on planet earth thank you for the many many years of love and friendship I will forever treasure them.
Always and forever
Sammy

- Chuck & Viv NiesenI fondly remember Mr. James for his kindness and courage, especially the year (early 1980's) he brought a vibrant Caribana theme to the Hanover Cornfest. By introducing steel pans and limbo dancers alongside traditional polka, he courageously bridged cultures in our small town. Whether we were husking corn or setting up the arena, his dedication was inspiring. He even hosted the performers at his home - a weekend filled with music and laughter. These experiences expanded my horizons and fostered a deeper appreciation for the world beyond our town.
Sending my condolences to Charmaine, "Junior" and Andy.

- KellyDear Charmaine, Malcom Jr, Andrew and families:
We very were saddened to hear of Malcom passing. As the man about town, you just felt happier after being in his presence. Fred has many happy memories of the bus rides to work from Hanover to the Bruce, which he and Malcom took for many years. The rides were humorous, full of antics, and eventful because of Malcom. He continued to be a good friend long after those days were over. Elaine has also fond memories of the Hanover Cornfest, when Malcom brought a touch of the Caribbean to Hanover.
Malcom leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth and compassion for all. May your memories, and love for your Dad, bring you comfort and peace.
