Marlene Schmidt

Marlene Fredericka (nee Becker) Schmidt, of Hanover, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Collingwood General & Marine Hospital on Thursday, January 29, 2026. She was 84.

Born in Hanover on March 13, 1941, to the late Milton and Fern (nee Wettlaufer) Becker. Many will remember Marlene whipping up those tasty meals at the Hanover & District Hospital and her famous apple pie at family gatherings. She loved her horse racing and watching her game shows. She was always happy to have a visit from her grand puppies.

Survived by son Stanley (Danielle) Schmidt of Australia and daughter Lynda (Len) Murphy of Wasaga Beach as well as by her son in-law Bruce (Cindy) Meyerink of Hanover. Loved Grannie of Stacy (Dave), Stephanie (Hami), Lucas (Josie) and Emma Schmidt. Marlene was delighted of having the joy of being a Great Grannie to Amelia and Cameron. Predeceased by her parents, partner Roy O'Hagan, daughter Marilyn Meyerink and son Steven Schmidt.

To honour her wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family inurnment will be held at the Hanover Cemetery at the Columbarium at a later date.

Memorial donations to the Hanover & District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mightonfuneralhome.ca
