Douglas "Doug" Kocher

Douglas “Doug” Raymond Kocher, of Ayton, suddenly passed away after a brief battle with Cancer at home surrounded by those who loved him on Saturday, June 13, 2026. In his 81st year.

Born in Walkerton on August 31, 1945 to the late Wilfred and Marie (nee Fortney) Kocher, Doug carried a lifelong love of the outdoors and could often be found in his garage tinkering with anything he could get his hands on. He had a particular sense of humour and loved getting a rise out of people, especially his wife. When he wasn’t in the garage, he was out cruising the streets of Ayton on his John Deere, making his rounds and catching up with friends over coffee. Above all, Doug loved being a grandpa; playing with the kids brought out his softest, happiest side.

Survived by his devoted wife Kathy (nee Walter) Kocher of Ayton. Loving father of Katrina (Mike) Spahr of Mount Forest, Jason (Melissa) Kocher, and Ashley (Matt) Henshaw, both of Ayton. Cherished grandfather of Everleigh, Lylah, Josh, and Easton. He will be fondly remembered by his siblings Bob (Pat), Jim (Sherri), Richard (Darlene), Jerome (Pat), Liz Campbell, Kathy (Tom) Hague, Linda Gebhardt-Thiessan (Paul), and sister‑in‑law Shirley Kocher, as well as many nieces, nephews, and their families. He will also be warmly remembered by the entire Walter family. Predeceased by his parents, brothers Donald and David, and sisters Clarissa Rossi and Mary Lou in infancy.

Family and friends are invited to Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 1–3pm for a visitation period. A casual gathering to share stories and memories of Doug will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion – Hanover until 6pm. And yes — there will be food. Anyone who knew Doug knows he never missed a meal, or a chance to hover around the table “just checking what was there.” It wouldn’t be a proper send‑off without something to eat.

Memorial donations to the Normanby Optimist Club would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Donations will be disbursed to Cancer patient services. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mightonfuneralhome.ca
