Alan Jack Staff
February 4, 1929 – June 18, 2026
It is with love, gratitude, and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Jack Staff, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and faithful servant of God.
Alan was born on February 4, 1929, in Great Yarmouth, England, to Frederick Staff and Doris Sowter. From an early age, he demonstrated the determination, intelligence, and strong work ethic that would characterize his life. At just 16 years old, he earned his apprenticeship certificate as a Millwright, beginning a lifelong career distinguished by exceptional skill, innovation, and craftsmanship.
In June 1965, Alan and his wife, Beth, courageously immigrated to Canada in search of new opportunities for their family. Alan always placed the needs and happiness of his family above his own. Through hard work, perseverance, and unwavering dedication, he built not only a successful life but also a loving and secure home filled with laughter and cherished memories.
Alan was a man who could fix almost anything. Blessed with gifted hands and an inventive mind, he approached every challenge with ingenuity and determination. Whether repairing machinery, restoring vehicles, solving practical problems, or creating something entirely new, he was known for his remarkable ability to turn ideas into reality. He was an innovator, a craftsman, and a builder in every sense of the word.
Yet those who knew Alan best will remember him not for what he built with his hands, but for what he built with his life. He was funny, friendly, and charming. His warm personality and sense of humour made him enjoyable company and earned him many lasting friendships. Though accomplished in so many ways, he remained humble and unassuming, and was respected by those who knew him.
Alan had a deep love for horses and dogs and he enjoyed football (soccer) and pool. Especially in his later years he could always be found reading. He would read westerns, mysteries, dramas and non-fiction of every kind. His favourite genre was history as he was a lifelong learner, always eager to expand his knowledge and understanding of the world. He found joy in life's simple pleasures and treasured the time he spent with family and friends.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Alan served diligently in numerous callings throughout his life. Together with his beloved wife, Beth, he later had the privilege of serving a mission in Spokane, Washington—an experience that brought him great fulfillment and reflected his devotion to the Savior. His faith was not merely something he believed; it was something he lived. Through quiet service, personal integrity, and righteous example, he demonstrated a lifetime of discipleship.
Though his accomplishments were many, Alan's greatest achievement was his family. He led by example, worked tirelessly to provide, and taught through both word and deed the values of faith, honesty, hard work, and love.
Alan is survived by his loving wife, Beth Staff; his son, Mark Staff; his daughters, Leah Staff and Lara Staff; 10 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
While his earthly journey has come to an end, his influence continues in the lives of those he loved and served. There is comfort in knowing that he has returned to his Heavenly Father and in the promise of a joyful reunion yet to come.
Alan Jack Staff will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover on Monday, June 22, 2026 from 11am-12 noon where a funeral service will follow. Interment in Hanover Cemetery, Hanover.
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23
Alan was such a special man!!!
Although I didn't know him in the early years of his life I got the privilege to of known him and care for him in his later years. Although in LTC we aren't supposed to have our favourites, Alan was one of mine. With his witty personality and his smile that would warm your heart I have to say going into work everyday won't be the same without Alan there, I will miss him so much!
Sending my condolences to Alan's whole family, which I had the privilege of meeting Beth, Mark and Leah, who are absolutely wonderful people. You're in my thoughts and prayers.
Rest in peace Alan.
