Barbara Mann

Barbara Mann

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Jane Mann (nee Field) of Hanover on July 3, 2026 at University Hospital London after a brief illness.

Barb was born in Toronto in 1947 to the late Arthur and Mary (nee Stewart) Field. She attended Richview Collegiate Institute and later received a B.A. from York University and a B.Ed. from the University of Toronto.

In 1967 while working at a summer job at the Department of Highways in Toronto, Barb met the love of her life William “Bill” Mann.  Barb and Bill were married in 1969 and in 1971 they moved to Hanover, the place they would call home for the rest of their lives.

Barb worked as a French teacher, first with the Halton School Board and then later at J.D.S.S. in Hanover.  After the birth of her three children, Barb left teaching to be a stay-at-home mother. Once her children were old enough to attend school full-time, Barb went to work alongside Bill in the family pharmacy.

Barb was a very active and social individual and her many friendships were very important to her. She loved to garden, bake, read, walk and travel.  She enjoyed watching Blue Jays baseball, solving the daily Wordle and Sudoku puzzles and attending Aquafit classes three times each week followed by coffee with the Aquabellas. She kept up with her many friends both in-person and via phone calls, text messages and Facebook.  She planned an outing for a large group of friends to Stratford each summer.  Barb never met a person who stayed a stranger and made new friendships everywhere she went. Barb and Bill both had a life long love of dogs and missed all of their four legged companions.

Barb is predeceased by her husband of 55 years Bill, parents Arthur and Mary, brother Stewart and sister-in-law Pam. Barb is survived by and will be truly missed by her children Jennifer (Justin), Jonathan and Kyler; her sister Ginny, brother Arthur, sister Carol and brothers-in-law James and Edgar (Lottie) and sister-in-law Carla as well as her pride and joy, her granddaughter Reese.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

According to Barb’s wishes cremation has taken place.  There will be a funeral service for Barb taking place Wednesday, July 8th at 11 am at Grace United Church in Hanover with Pastor Jenn Brown officiating.  A gathering to share memories and fellowship will take place at The Carriage House Event Centre Hanover immediately following.  Private family inurnment at the Hanover Cemetery will occur later in the afternoon. For those not able to attend the service will be live streamed at

The family would like to thank Dr. Nick Abell for taking such good care of both Barb and Bill during the past many years as well as being an invaluable support during Barb’s illness.

Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home Hanover.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Hanover and District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated in Barb’s memory.

Dearest Kyler, Jennifer , Justin, Rees and Jonathan, our very deepest sympathy to you all as well as Barb's extended family from her travelling companions from Australia. Blessed to have shared so much with you and Bill.
The world is a little dimmer without you in it to chat to and laugh with as we have done so for so many years. However memories of our travel adventures together are held tight in our heart and the stars in the heavens will shine a bit brighter.
As always - Love and hugs from Sue & Alan, and all our family to yours.

Dear Jennifer, Jonathan and Kyler: Please accept my sincerest condolences during this difficult time, loosing your Mom. A million years ago I babysat you guys and then later got to know your folks as an “adult”. Your Mom was the sweetest soul and always had time to catch up. Your Dad was a terrific guy and always loved a good laugh and poking fun at whoever he could ! Hanover will be a little “emptier” without them for sure. I'm thinking of you all and sending you warm thoughts and prayers. Take care of yourselves. Sincerely, Teresa Dunnigan

My son, Neil Simpson, sadly told me that Barbara had died. I was truly shocked. Even though I had not seen Barb for a little while, I fondly remember speaking to Barbara when she so faithfully walked her black lab. Bill and Barbara had many dogs of this breed. Barbara obviously enjoyed walking them in the neighbourhood. My heart goes out to Barb's many friends who will be absolutely devastated at losing their longtime and very dear friend.
I especially think of Barbara's three children who have suddenly lost their beloved mother, after just losing their father last year. May they be comforted by the love and support of Barb's many friends.
