HEANEY
Hilara Heaney, of Hanover, passed away at SBGHC–Walkerton on Sunday, July 26, 2026. She was 90.
Born in Chepstow, Ontario, on April 20, 1936, to the late Alphonse and Annie (née Graf) Waechter, Hilara was known as a caring and respected Registered Nurse at Hanover & District Hospital and Markdale Hospital. She had a deep love not only for her career, but also for her family, especially her grandchildren. She always had a special smile for them and loved to spend time with them. She attended as many of their sporting events and milestones as possible and was their biggest fan.
Travel was another of Hilara's passions. She was fortunate to visit Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Europe, Colombia, and most of Canada. She also took great pride in her beautiful flower gardens. In her leisure time, she enjoyed being with friends, playing cards, and knitting.
No longer by our side, but forever in our hearts, Hilara will be dearly missed by her children: Bill (Bev) Heaney of Oakville, Brian (Tammie) Heaney of Waterloo, Barry (Kelly Ann) Heaney of Walkerton, and Sandra (Des) Cartier of Belwood. Cherished Grandma of Griffin, Emma, Megan, Connor, Neil, Ray, Finn, Logan, Sidney, and Declan.
Fondly remembered by her sisters, Helen Kraemer of Walkerton and Irene Csontos of Hanover; brother-in-law Peter Heaney of Kitchener; sister-in-law Sheila Heaney of Ottawa as well as nieces, nephews and their families..
Predeceased by her husband, Lawrence "Larry" Heaney; her son, David Heaney; her brothers, Jerome (Jean) Waechter and Clarence Waechter; her sister, Edna (Peter) Lang; and her brothers-in-law, Linus Kraemer, Ron Heaney, Bryce Troy, and Les Csontos.
Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Church on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Father Emmanuel Azike will officiate. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery, Hanover, Ontario.
