

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Deratnay. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Hanover and District Hospital on Thursday, September 17, 2026. He was 82.
Donald was born in Hanover on August 31, to the late Edward and Evelyn Deratnay. He worked as a Civil Servant with Law Enforcement, starting out in Walkerton and eventually became a Sergeant at the Hanover Police Department, for many years. He respected the competent leadership of former Chief of Police D. Gilchrist of Walkerton and F. Illingworth of Hanover. He was a member of the Hanover Masonic Lodge and received his 50-year pin in April 2022 and was proud to be a part of the Masons.
Survived by wife Jane of Hanover, daughters Laurie and Cherie and his cherished granddaughter Evie. Predeceased by his parents, brother in law Doug and sister in laws Mary and Barb.
To honour his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service, officiated by Pastor Lori Pilatzke and will be held at the Hanover Cemetery - Columbarium
