Charlotte Ann Edington [nee Edward]
June 24, 1931 – September 26, 2026
Born and raised in Sudbury, Charlotte graduated from the Ottawa Civic Hospital nursing program in 1953, and then returned home to work at the Sudbury General Hospital. Being a registered nurse provided Charlotte with compassion and resilience. She applied these skills to her roles as mother, grandmother, step-daughter, sister, aunt, friend and neighbour with empathy, stamina and advocacy. By choice, Charlotte was a homemaker and a care-giver who was highly attentive and effective.
Charlotte’s family, immediate and extended, was the driving force in her life. She raised her children selflessly and encouraged them to follow their dreams. She will be missed by Bruce (Maggie), Brenda, Lee (Michael), and Jason (Stacey). She always found time for her nine grandchildren, predeceased by Luke, instilling in them her tremendous work ethic by teaching them to sweep decks, keep the shoreline clean and repair cedar rail fences. Tea and a game of cards, checkers or bridge usually followed. She leaves behind fourteen great grandchildren and is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Charlotte was the cherished sister of John, Peter, Tom, Patricia (all deceased) and Jill, living in Aurora.
Charlotte enjoyed countless special summers on Manitoulin Island with friends and relatives. Her tea parties were legendary as was her loon call from the end of the dock. She taught all who were interested how to filet a Lake Trout. Her adventurous spirit took her to many parts of the globe and she was an avid skier well into her seventies. A big believer in volunteerism, Charlotte gave quality time to the Nipissing Chapter of the IODE, St. Andrews United Church, the Canadian Red Cross and the Sudbury YMCA.
Throughout her years, she made a difference to those around her. Her healthy sense of humour and love of practical jokes were appreciated and always ended in a delightful Charlotte giggle.
Charlotte would have appreciated a donation to the Red Cross or a charity of your choice instead of flowers.
A Celebration of Life Tea will be held at the Sandfield Community Centre (2177 ON-542 in Central Manitoulin, Ontario) on Sunday, August 22, 2027 from 1-5pm, with remembrances at 3pm. All who knew Charlotte throughout the years are welcome. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover.
While I did not have the good fortune to meet this incredible lady, I do not doubt her presence and spirit will not only be missed…. But will live on through all those she touched and supported.
