Janice Sophia Polfuss, of Neustadt, passed away peacefully at Chapman House in Owen Sound on Sunday, October 25, 2026. She was 76.
Born in Normanby Township on February 4, 1950, to the late Norman and Ordelia (nee ‘Tillie’ Meyer) Wilson. Janice and Robert, were familiar faces in their community, attending local events and always willing to lend a hand with service club activities. Janice spent her working years with the Royal Bank, and later Foodland in Hanover, where she made many friends, with both coworkers and customers. At home, Janice enjoyed quiet moments spent reading and cherished watching the morning sunrises from the dining room window of their farmhouse. She had a passion for gardening and tending to her beautiful flowerbeds, as well as a love of cooking and baking for her family. Above all else, Janice treasured her precious grandchildren, who brought her endless joy. She was happiest when watching her kids and grandchildren play sports, but most of all sitting at the ballpark, watching fastball—especially when cheering on her beloved Toronto Batman.
Survived by her husband of 58 years Robert "Bob" Polfuss. Loved mother of Pamela (Steve) Schmidt of Neustadt, Jenn (Chris) Faulds of Neustadt, and Scott (Kerri) Polfuss of Hanover. Special grandmother of Morgan (Andrew), Taylor (Tori), Tanya, Terry, Jayden, Landon, Kaylie (Foster), and great grandmother of Ada. Fondly remembered by her siblings Carol (Brian) Plantz of Neustadt, June (Brian) Junner of Stratford and Roger Wilson (Vicky Lantz) of Calgary as well as her many nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by her parents.
Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Neustadt (379 Adam St.) on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 11am. Rev. Christine Rehkopf officiating. Cremation will follow with inurnment in St. Paul's Cemetery, Normanby.
Memorial donations to the Neustadt Lions Club (not a registered charity), Saugeen Hospice, Chapman House – Grey Bruce Hospice, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
