It is with great sadness that the family of Paul Norman Martin Foerster of Ayton, Ontario, announces his passing on November 2, 2026, at Hanover & District Hospital, at the age of 87.

Beloved husband of Barbara (née Brusso) for 63 years. Loving father of Lynn (Warren Hales) of Oakville and David (Rosalyn) of Ayton. Cherished grandfather of Farrah, Tyson, Theo, and Benjamin.

Paul is also survived by his sister-in-law Katherine Weber of St. Thomas, brothers-in-law Richard Brusso of Ayton and Kenneth Brusso (Linda) of Ayton, and sister-in-law Mary Schlorff (the late Neil) of Hanover.

Paul was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Hedwig Foerster (née Bender); his parents-in-law, Noah and Sadie Brusso (née Herbst); his five step-siblings, Mabel Seim (Frederick), Lillian Tanner (George), Milton Foerster (Marie), Carl Foerster (Doris), and Gertrude Tone (Francis); his brother-in-law Robert (Bob) Brusso and his wife, Theresa (née Smolarz); his sister-in-law Janet Butchart; and his brother-in-law Victor Butchart.

Paul will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, including his godchildren Dwight Weber, Heather Foerster, Karen Brusso, Andrew Butchart, Krystal Bettencourt, and Adam Brusso. He will also be remembered by his brother-in-law Robert (Bob) Weber.

Born in Hanover, Ontario, Paul first lived in RR3 Mildmay before growing up in Ayton. He later moved to Kitchener, where he lived for many years and became a licensed electrician, working with Roberts Electric and various other companies. He eventually returned to Ayton, where he established Paul Foerster Electrical Contracting.

Paul was a dedicated member of the community, serving for many years with the Ayton Fire Department, including several years as Fire Chief. He was also a longtime member of the Ayton Lions Club and the Ontario Electrical League, serving as President of both organizations. He was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, where he also served on Church Council.

Paul was a man of many interests and talents, with a lifelong curiosity and a love of learning. He enjoyed photography, including developing his own photographs in his darkroom, woodworking, gardening, and reading, particularly about history and the world wars. He had a keen interest in astronomy, keeping up with the latest space explorations and enjoying time with his telescope. Always active, Paul enjoyed cycling, curling, cross-country skiing and especially golfing with his buddies, as well as cheering on his beloved Toronto Blue Jays.

Above all, Paul treasured his family and the time they spent together.

“Foss” was known for his wonderful sense of humour, practical jokes, and generous spirit. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, neighbours, church community, colleagues, and all who knew him.

Special thanks to Dr. Nick Abell and his team at Hanover & District Hospital for the compassionate care provided to Paul.

Our sincere condolences to Barb and family. Paul was always a chatty and friendly guy when you met him on the street. When we built our house in 1974, he did the electrical work and he'd always have a little chuckle. May your memories help you get through the coming days and months. RIP Paul.

I wish to extend my condolences to you Barb and all the family at this sad time. I've known Paul for approximately 80 years and been we were close friends for most of them. He had a great sense of humour and a very quick wit and could come out with a funny remark at the drop of a hat. He loved his family very much and was so proud of his grand children's achievements. I will miss him tremendously and hope he scores a hole in one on that great golf course in the sky.
