George William Smith, of R#1 Hanover, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home on Monday, December 18, 2017.  He was 65.

Born on April 27, 1952 in Hanover to the late William and Louise (nee Wilken) Smith. George was an active man, full of knowledge of anything mechanical. He owned and operated George's Service Centre in Ayton for over 27 years. While he wasn't working at the garage, he was a volunteer firefighter and retired after 23 years.

Survived by loving wife Linda (nee Baack) Smith of R#1 Hanover. Loved father of Daniel (Evelyn) Smith of R#1 Hanover, Erin Smith (Wade Eller) of Hanover, Tyler (Ashley) Smith of R#3 Hanover and Mark Smith (Suzanne Miller) of Owen Sound. George beamed when he was with all his grandchildren, Trent and Max Smith and Michael and Christopher Crozier. Dear brother in law of Norman (Maryann) Baack of Hanover. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased by his brother Gordon (Carol) Smith.

Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 11:00 am, at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Hanover. Rev. Bonnie Sutherland officiating. Spring Interment in Hampden Cemetery, Normanby Township, Ontario.

Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
