George “Lawrie” Weppler, of Ayton, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Louise Marshall Hospital in Mount Forest on Friday, September 18, 2026, in his 85th year.

Born on December 30, 1941, in Ayton, Lawrie was the son of the late Alvin and Lavina (née Fisher) and Almeda (nee Pfeffer) Weppler.

Lawrie will be remembered as a man who believed deeply in hard work, family, and giving back to his community. A lifelong farmer, he dedicated countless years to working the land—rising early, putting in long days, and taking great pride in providing for those he loved. Farming was more than a livelihood to Lawrie; it was a way of life that reflected his determination, patience, and strong sense of responsibility.

Above all, Lawrie was a devoted family man. His family was at the heart of everything he did, and he took great pride in their accomplishments and happiness. He was a loving husband, father, “Pa,” brother, and friend whose steady presence brought strength, wisdom, and warmth to those around him.

Lawrie’s commitment to his community was equally important to him. He proudly served in municipal government as Councillor, Deputy Reeve, and Reeve of Normanby Township, and as Warden of the County of Grey in 1992. Over the years, he also contributed his time and experience to numerous committees and boards, including Germania Insurance, Normanby Recreation, and West Grey Police. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a member of the Ayton Seniors.

For Lawrie, community service was both an honour and a responsibility. He cared deeply about the people and communities he represented and generously shared his time, knowledge, and experience in an effort to make them stronger.

Those who knew Lawrie will remember a man who never shied away from hard work, who stood firmly by his family, and who believed in helping others. His legacy lives on not only in all that he accomplished, but also in the family he cherished, the community he served, and the many lives he touched along the way. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and an enduring example of dedication, integrity, service, and love. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Lawrie was the beloved husband of Audrey (née Seip), with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Loving father of Ron Weppler, Carol Ann (Rodger) Lawrence, and Rhonda Weppler (Adam Koster). Cherished “Pa” of Madison (Connor) and Dalton.

He will be fondly remembered by his brothers, Lloyd (Velma) Weppler and Noah (Sharon) Weppler; his sister-in-law, Ruth Ann (Jim) Webb; and his many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Lawrie was predeceased by his parents, Alvin and Lavina Weppler; his parents-in-law, Florence (Ruben Seip) (Eugene Schaus); his sister, Reta (Harold) Wilson; his brother, Leroy (Betty) Weppler; and two brothers in infancy.

Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m.

A Funeral Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ayton, on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Kevin McLeod officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Ayton.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to Trinity Lutheran Church or Louise Marshall Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
